The Secret Wine School
Interesting Wine Events In Oxford
Welcome to The Secret Wine School
Started in October 2022, The Secret Wine School invites you to a series of interesting, friendly wine events and courses, hidden away in Jericho, just a few minutes walk from the city centre.
We have two monthly series and our 2023 course, An Interesting Intro to Wine.
Book & Bottle, in which we discuss a piece of international fiction in translation, and enjoy a guided tasting of four or more wines from the region in which the book originates. Scroll down to book your place.
Blind Wine Tasting, in which we taste six wines completely blind and try to understand them through aroma and taste. Over time we will hone our blind tasting skills and (presumably!) learn to distinguish a Pinot Noir from a Barolo at 20 paces! Book your place below.
Events take place at a secret location in Jericho – you will receive the full address after booking.

Events
Tuesday, 21st of January
February Blind Wine Tasting
Taste six (unthemed) wines completely blind – even your host won’t know – and using a structured tasting strategy, assess the aromas and flavours of the wine in order to identify it as closely as possible. This is a peer-led group, and we are all learning the art of blind tasting – and having some fun along the way! – together.
Tasting glasses and sheets are provided.
Date: 21/02/2023
Time: 7pm – 9pm
Ticket price: £20 per person
Location: Jericho (address revealed after booking)
Tuesday, 7th of March
Book & Bottle: Go, Went, Gone by Jenny Erpenbeck and the wines of Germany.
Our next Book & Bottle evening will focus on Germany, as we read Jenny Erpenbeck’s 2017 novel Go Went Gone.
We will meet in our secret Jericho location to discuss this brilliant and highly relevant novel, and enjoy four delicious wines from Germany – perhaps not exactly from Berlin, where the novel is set and where Jenny Erpenbeck is from, but we’ll do our best to make the wines relevant to the text!
Our Book & Bottle evenings are a great opportunity to put international literary fiction and wine into new contexts, and perhaps read some books and taste some wines you might not otherwise.
Tasting glasses and sheets are provided.

Conditions:
Tickets are sold strictly in advance, in order to plan wine purchases, and orders close 12 hours before the event. If booking is closed, do email or use the contact form below in case there is a cancellation! Events often sell out as long as eight weeks in advance.
There are no refunds unless we are able to resell your ticket (which is often possible). This is to help us keep prices as low as possible. If you can’t make it, you can give your seat to someone else or if you can let us know as early as possible we can offer it to our community or the waiting list, if there is one. When your ticket resells, we will refund you.
